Locum Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon

A full time 10PA Locum Fixed Term Consultant in Breast Surgery for Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, based at the King's Mill Hospital, Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire is required. This post will be focussed on oncoplastic breast surgery and as such, the candidate must have proven 2 year's experience in an Oncoplastic unit. The post holder may also be required to undertake planned surgery and outpatient clinics at Newark Hospital which is also part of the trust.
The appointee will join an existing multi-disciplinary team providing a comprehensive Breast Service to central North Nottinghamshire and, in particular, the residents of Mansfield, Ashfield and Newark Districts.
The post holder will demonstrate a wide range of skills and will be required to work flexibly within the department and across two sites. The successful candidate will be expected to be aware of local policies and procedures and comply with the standing orders and standing financial instructions of this Trust. In particular, where the consultant manages employees of the Trust, he/she will be expected to observe local employment and personnel policies and procedures.
Mainduties of the job
The over-riding purpose is to support the provision of the highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement.
- Provision of a service to Sherwood Forest Hospitals, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the department.
- Out-of-hours responsibilities, including participation in Consultant on-call rota where applicable.
- Cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences.
- Any responsibility which relates to a special interest.
- Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff including the observance of local employment and human resource policies and procedures.
- Responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education activity, locally and nationally.
- Participating in medical audit, the Trust's Clinical Governance processes and in CPD - CPD is provided in job plans and attendance at audit and other governance meetings is mandatory.
- Managerial, including budgetary responsibilities where appropriate and compliance with standing orders and standing financial instructions of the Trust.
- Any other duties which may be required from time to time which are reasonable regarded to be part of the role of a consultant.

Person Specification Qualifications- Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview
- Success in Intercollegiate Specialty Examination or equivalent (FRCS)
- Postgraduate thesis
- MD/MSc/MMEd
- Completed oncoplastic fellowship programme or equivalent experience
- Clinical Training and experience in oncoplastic breast surgery equivalent to that required of a UK CCST
- Statement regarding appropriate training and experience including that relating to a specialist interest (at least 2 years of experience in a unit providing the full range of oncoplastic procedures)
- Excellent clinical skills and substantial experience of benign and malignant breast conditions
- Evidenced experience in oncoplastic techniques such as volume displacement, volume replacement and implant based reconstruction
- Excellent practical skills in the full range of breast clinical problems
- Good understanding of the management of breast disease
- Evidence of participation in change projects
- Demonstrable ability as a teacher with evidence of training for the role
- Experience of supervising junior medical staff
- Commitment to Continuing Medical Education and the requirements of Clinical Governance and Audit
- Ability to convert research evidence into clinical practice
