An opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with an interest in supporting and developing the Maternal Medicine Service at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is available.

If successful, you will join an existing team of 15 consultants providing a comprehensive Obstetrics & Gynaecology Service to the western part of North Nottinghamshire and, in particular, the residents of Mansfield, Ashfield and Newark Districts. There will be an expectation that the post holder will contribute to the on‑call rota, designed to meet the requirement of 60 hours per week consultant presence on the Birthing Unit, but also to help meet the recommendations for safe Obstetric care detailed within the Ockenden Report.

Main

duties of the job

The main responsibilities of the post will be to further develop and support the provision of excellent antenatal care, particularly in the maternal medicine setting. Additional expertise to complement the existing team of particular interest would be in areas of high risk antenatal care, preterm birth prevention and risk management/governance.

  • Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients
  • To share knowledge with the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department
  • Teaching and training of junior staff and medical students
  • Actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit
  • Ensure active participation in continuing medical education (CME)
  • Develop maternal medicine leadership role and service development

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview.

    Note:

    CESR applicants must be on the Specialist Register at the point of application
  • MRCOG
  • Advanced Labour Ward Practitioner ATSM
  • An additional obstetric ATSM that would complement the existing skills within the department
  • Maternal Medicine ATSM or SITM
Teaching
  • Demonstrable ability as a teacher
  • ALSO or MOET instructor
  • Evidence of training for teaching role
  • Education Supervisor training
Management
  • Ability to effectively organise and manage clinical workload.
  • Experience of admin e.g. rota organisation
  • Evidence of MDT experience
Research and Audit
  • Ability to convert research evidence into clinical practice
  • Publications in peer‑reviewed journals
  • Ability to be Lead Researcher
Experience
  • Extensive experience in Maternal Medicine
  • Experience requisite to meeting all aspects of the job plan
  • Ability to maintain clinical credibility and authority with a multi‑professional team including senior trainees
  • Ability to scan in obstetric settings
  • Five years supervised training in an appropriate SpR equivalent training programme
Other
  • Ability to function as part of a multidisciplinary Team within the Maternity Service and wider Trust
  • Experience in protocol and guideline development
  • Ability to participate in joint Obstetrics and Gynaecology on‑call
  • Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels
