About the job

The Development Upholsterers are key members of the Development Team and play a vital role in creating new products. Working with the designers, they will take initial concepts from a bare frame to a presentation prototype.

Then, when the models have been bought, they will spec up and develop all pieces in the range, proof them and train them into the production upholstery tracks.

Responsibilities
  • Liaising / collaborating with all members of the development team, set up team and designers.
  • Turning a bare frame into a presentation prototype.
  • Patterning up, and providing fabrication details, of all tacking kits and fabric patterns.
  • Recording all details of each development. Measurements, weights, specifications, components used, sundries required, etc.
  • Producing step by step details (photographs) of how to upholster the furniture.
  • Looking at frame construction and advising of any changes required.
  • Simplifying and standardising processes wherever possible in line with lean manufacturing.
  • Problem solving, trouble shooting, and coming up with new methods
  • Questioning and advising of any problem areas encountered. Offering alternative suggestions.
  • Any cutting work where necessary.
  • Cushion filling, buttoning, tufting etc and dressing where necessary.
