Rhode Island Children’s Dentistry & Orthodontics is seeking a friendly, skilled, and patient-focused Orthodontic Assistant to join our team. Our practice provides pediatric dental and orthodontic care in a welcoming, family-friendly environment, serving children, teens, adults, and patients with special healthcare needs. The ideal candidate is dependable, compassionate, and enjoys working with patients while helping create positive and comfortable orthodontic experiences.
As an Orthodontic Assistant, you will work closely with our orthodontists and clinical team to provide efficient, high-quality care while helping patients feel comfortable and confident throughout their orthodontic treatment.
Your responsibilities will includeAssist the orthodontist during examinations, consultations, and treatment appointments
Prepare treatment rooms, instruments, and materials for orthodontic procedures
Assist with the placement, adjustment, and removal of orthodontic appliances and braces as directed by the orthodontist
Assist with bonding brackets, placing wires, changing archwires, and other orthodontic procedures as directed
Take digital dental X-rays and photographs as permitted by applicable state regulations and practice protocols
Assist with digital impressions/scanning and other orthodontic records
Prepare patients for orthodontic procedures and explain treatment steps in an age-appropriate manner
Provide patients and parents with oral hygiene and orthodontic care instructions as directed by the orthodontist
Help patients understand proper care of braces, appliances, retainers, and other orthodontic equipment
Communicate with patients and families regarding appointment instructions and orthodontic treatment information
Maintain accurate and timely patient records and clinical documentation
Clean, disinfect, and prepare operatories between patients
Follow all infection control, OSHA, and safety protocols
Maintain and organize orthodontic instruments, equipment, and supplies
Monitor inventory and communicate supply needs to the appropriate team member
Work closely with the orthodontist, dental assistants, hygienists, and front office team to maintain efficient patient flow
Help create a positive, comfortable, and educational experience for children, teens, and families
Perform other duties as assigned
Preferred QualificationsPrevious orthodontic or dental assisting experience preferred
Orthodontic Assistant certification/registration as required by applicable state regulations
Radiology certification as required by applicable state regulations
Experience working with children and families preferred
Familiarity with orthodontic terminology, instruments, and procedures
Strong understanding of infection control and sterilization procedures
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Comfortable working with children, teens, and adults
Ability to remain calm, patient, and reassuring with patients who may be anxious or nervous
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established protocols
Organized and able to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment
Dependable, professional, and team-oriented
