Must hold or be eligible for a valid certificate in school psychology. National Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) certification preferred.
EducationCompletion of a state-approved certification preparation program in school psychology at the specialist degree level or higher, or completion of a master's degree plus 60 graduate semester hours/90 quarter hours of school psychology coursework from a NASP-approved program.
ExperienceCompletion of a successful year's internship in conjunction with public schools following degree conferral is required. Three years of experience as a school psychologist is preferred.
SkillsKnowledge of psycho-educational assessments; ability to consult with administrators, teachers, and parents; knowledge of principles of learning and behavior, special education laws and regulations; provision of in-service training; crisis intervention; effective communication skills; organizational and problem-solving abilities; multitasking; and human relations skills.
Primary ResponsibilitiesRequires prolonged sitting, talking, hearing, standing, walking, and the use of hands for handling objects. May require occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, and depth perception. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for individuals with disabilities.
