Van Build Technician

Job Summary

The primary function of this position is to build and set up company service vehicles, keep the fleet running, and perform necessary service, preventative maintenance, repairs, replacements, installations, or re‑building of components including fabrication, small engines, transfer pumps, lighting, power inverters, making hydraulic hoses, welding, etc.

The Van Build Technician will work under the supervision of the Shop Foreman to build or inspect and assess needed repairs to service vans or trucks. You will be required to coordinate with technicians for service vehicle repairs and maintenance, create schedules, keep logs to complete all work within an allotted timeline, and inspect each job for proper and safe operation prior to release.

Travel to technicians on site to perform equipment repairs and service.

• Manage work and shop area to keep it clean and safe in compliance with all safety policies and 5S.
• Complete all paperwork for TMHS, keep inventory and supplies up to date, and make decisions with little supervision.
• Use repair manuals and parts diagrams to troubleshoot small engines, engine fuel systems, pumps, and other components on technicians' vans or trucks. Maintain shop boards during building steps.
• Use meters, measuring devices and computers to perform paperwork, keep time records, and schedule equipment maintenance to ensure the fleet stays up and running.
• Use plasma cutter, welder and hand & power tools to fabricate, remove, install, replace, re‑build, repair and test parts/equipment on engines, engine fuel systems, and other components.
• Safely use lift trucks, overhead cranes and other aids to move parts into position for repair.
• Use miscellaneous resources & computers to reference parts, obtain information and enter data.
• Climb onto, under, and into vehicles, using hand & power tools to disassemble/reassemble sheet metal, small engines, fuel systems, air compressors, and pumps or other parts or equipment.
• Assist in building maintenance and housekeeping projects.
• Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. (and occasionally more), climb ladders and work under vehicles.

2–5 years' experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Certified Forklift Operator
• Good driving record

Work is performed in a maintenance shop environment with exposure to moving mechanical parts, dust, fumes, chemicals, or solvents. Proper safety procedures are required. The position demands full body motion for climbing, reaching, pushing, and lifting. Visual requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The load is up to 75 lbs. (sometimes more).

Noise is usually moderate.
