Position Overview
Pertemps North Midlands is seeking a Mechanical Design & Service Engineer for a permanent full-time position in Swadlincote, Derbyshire. The role offers a salary between £38,000 and £65,000 per annum, depending on experience, and works Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm in a hybrid setting that blends office-based design with site inspections and client-facing support.
Key Responsibilities- Produce 2D and 3D CAD designs using Solid Works, Inventor and AutoCAD.
- Design industrial machinery and structural steelwork.
- Carry out site inspections, engineering surveys and equipment assessments.
- Diagnose mechanical failures, structural issues and equipment wear.
- Perform engineering calculations, including torque, motor power, gear ratios and belt tensions.
- Support customers with technical enquiries and develop engineering solutions.
- Produce detailed technical reports with clear recommendations.
- Work closely with clients to support refurbishment projects and ongoing engineering requirements.
- BEng or MEng in Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience designing industrial machinery or structural steelwork.
- Strong CAD skills using Solid Works, Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of drive systems, power transmission and mechanical calculations.
- Experience carrying out site surveys and fault‑finding in heavy industrial environments.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex engineering issues clearly.
- Experience of structural calculations and stress analysis; FEA experience is advantageous.
- A valid CCNSG Safety Passport (or equivalent) is desirable.
- A full UK driving licence, as regular travel throughout the UK is required.
Salary is dependent on experience, with a range of £38,000 to £65,000 per annum. Benefits include:
