Production Manager
Asst Plant Manager is responsible for the day‑to‑day management of people, equipment and materials to achieve production objectives, which will result in the on‑time, completed production of a quality product. The Asst Plant Manager must be able to meet production requirements while maintaining efficiency and ensuring a quality result.
This position is also responsible for leading, directing and motivating departments. This individual is required to assist in the development of department goals and strategies to include cross‑training, line balancing, product prioritizations, associate development, performance, safety communication, quality assurance and meeting department measures. He/she will ensure the department is running effectively and efficiently and use data to implement continuous improvement. This position will monitor the workflow of the department, department calls and feedback to supervisors on product quality issues.
Excellent organizational and multi‑tasking skills are required.
Every unit produced in our manufacturing facility is made‑to‑order. It requires a high degree of precision, craftsmanship, and ability to skillfully work with pneumatic hand tools and automated equipment to build beautiful, high‑quality windows.
Duties and responsibilitiesLeads by example each day in key areas – environment, health, safety, quality, productivity, housekeeping and attendance.
Assigns Supervisors to specific tasks in their department, ensures clear understanding of task expectations in quality, EHS and productivity.
Leads the daily touchpoints to ensure alignment across all functions to determine if production teams are meeting their targets.
Provides feedback in the form of counseling and recognition for positive performance and development opportunities.
Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules daily.
Identifies future staffing/equipment needs for the budgeting process.
Works with supervisors to rotate employees as necessary to meet production needs.
Provides leadership in sustaining defined processes and resolving issues.
Ensures the overall integrity of work produced by the line.
Develops, recommends and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product.
Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of department.
Prepares and presents communications to production Supervisors and other members of management regarding daily expectations for production, quality, EHS, housekeeping and other key measures as well as general information required to keep all employees informed.
Maintains the overall safety of employees in the assigned work area by reporting all hazards/issues, leading and participating in EHS incident investigations and follow‑up, ergonomic and hazard assessments etc.
Provides corrective action to address attendance, conduct, or performance issues with production supervisors, to include conducting investigations, providing documentation and recommending further courses of action to other members of management as necessary.
Assesses individual training needs, including cross‑training and job rotation plans of production supervisor.
Identify staffing needs, interview, and recommend employee selection, document in a timely manner.
Is consistently at work and on time;
Arrives at meetings and appointments on time;
Commits to long hours of work when necessary to reach production goals.
Promotes a harassment‑free environment. Ensures consistency between lines in application of employee relations policies and procedures for all production employees, e.g., overtime administration, layoff/recall procedures, attendance tracking, etc.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
Wears required safety equipment including but not limited to; hearing protection, safety glasses, and steel toe footwear.
Other duties as assigned.
