Medical Assistant
The role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. This role involves direct interaction with patients to ensure their comfort and address concerns, as well as collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care.

Essential Functions- Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and helps facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training.
- Shows patients to examination rooms, prepares necessary equipment for healthcare providers, and interviews patients to obtain medical information, measures their vital signs, weight, and height, and records information in the patient’s medical record.
- Explains treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, orders and organizes educational materials to reinforce patient education.
- Performs general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach.
- Collects blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, logs them, and prepares them for testing; performs phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.
- Maintains inventory of immunizations and checks expiration dates.
- Provides immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
- Is responsible for improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.
High School Diploma or Equivalent required or Associate’s Degree Medical Assisting preferred.

Direct Medical Assistant experience or medical field work 1‑2 years required.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for success in this position.
- Ability to prioritize tasks in complex and busy environments.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal privacy and confidentiality rules and regulations.
- Ability to take vital signs and manual blood pressure, as well as collect blood samples and other specimens.
- Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software.
- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
- Managing one's own time and the time of others.
- Medical Assistant Course or diploma program or a minimum of 1 year professional experience.
- National MA Certification via AAMA, AMT, NHA, or NCCT.
- Epic experience.
