Do you get a buzz from unpicking complex data flows and system processes, then rebuilding them to be faster, smarter and far less manual? This role is where revenue accounting meets technology, and your work shapes the numbers the whole business relies on.
Join Jagex, home of Rune Scape and Old School Rune Scape, as a Technical Revenue Accountant on a 6-month fixed-term contract, supporting key revenue accounting, reconciliation and reporting across Finance.
This is more than business-as-usual revenue accounting. You’ll help redesign the processes and controls around high-volume revenue and billing, supporting the transition from manual reconciliation processes towards more scalable, automated ways of working.
You’ll work across billing, PSP and revenue systems, helping the business understand what is driving revenue movements and giving senior stakeholders confidence in the integrity of the numbers during a pivotal period of change. In six months, you’ll leave a visible, lasting mark on how revenue is accounted for at Jagex.
What you’ll be doing :- Own the monthly revenue recognition process, validating data from multiple systems so revenue is recognised and deferred accurately.
- Prepare monthly revenue and deferred revenue journals, ensuring calculations are fully supported and delivered within month-end close timelines.
- Analyse revenue and partner with the business to explain variances and highlight trends.
- Apply technical accounting judgement to revenue recognition, including contract changes, refunds and chargebacks, and new products or billing models, in line with standards such as IFRS 15.
- Reconcile revenue calculations, billing systems and PSP platforms such as Pay Pal and Adyen, resolving discrepancies to ensure reported revenue is accurate and complete.
- Design, document and continuously improve revenue and finance operations processes and controls, automating and simplifying to reduce manual effort while maintaining accuracy, auditability and control.
- Develop a clear understanding of how data flows between billing, payment and finance systems, working with systems and data engineering teams to define requirements for process and system changes.
- Support the Chargebee billing platform transition, establishing revenue reconciliations and controls for the new platform and ensuring reporting continuity as legacy systems are retired.
- Qualified Accountant status, such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA.
- Strong technical revenue accounting experience, including revenue recognition under IFRS 15 or equivalent, deferred revenue, accruals, journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Proven experience performing detailed reconciliations from source-system data through to financial reporting and general ledger postings.
- Solid understanding of finance and billing systems, such as subscription billing platforms, ERP and general ledger systems, and how transactional data flows between them into financial reporting.
- Strong Excel skills, including complex formulas and well-structured reconciliation workbooks.
- Confident working with large and complex datasets, including reviewing, validating and manipulating data from multiple sources.
- Experience in finance operations and process design, including documenting processes, strengthening controls and driving improvements to month-end close and reconciliation workflows.
