Responsibilities
- Be responsible for the delivery of advanced, highly specialist and complex dental care.
- Work largely autonomously, referring to Dental consultants where deemed necessary or at pre‑agreed intervals.
- Supervise clinical training at a specialist level for other clinical staff and provide professional advice based on clinical experience and training.
- Communicate teaching and development goals to other staff both within the clinic and as part of a wider teaching programme.
- Undertake teaching, supervision, mentoring and assessment roles where required, promoting a culture of learning.
- Provide direct access where appropriate, including preparation of treatment plans to ensure effective dental care.
- Serve as the first point of contact for patients undergoing treatment.
- Alert the supervising consultant to any concerns highlighted by the patient or noted by the therapist themselves.
- Remain accountable for own actions without direct supervision, while ensuring safe and effective clinical care and patient management.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan and design the organisation and running of clinics, ensuring support systems such as language line contribute to a successful patient experience.
- Plan and organise own workload, prioritise patient appointments, maintain clinical diaries and liaise with consultants.
- Operate a group of patients undergoing complex, highly specialised, multidisciplinary dental treatment.
- Use advanced knowledge and skills to assess clinical situations and adapt appropriate complex techniques to meet specific patient needs.
- Provide specialised dental care within hospital and peripheral settings.
- Undertake prolonged periods of detailed work with high precision and accuracy, using precision tools and expensive specialised equipment.
- Diploma or Degree in Dental Therapy.
- Registered with the General Dental Council as a Dental Therapist.
- Certified Competence of Extended duties.
- Member of an appropriate medical protection society.
- High level English language proficiency for effective written and verbal communication.
- Evidence of further education.
- Ability to overcome language and communication barriers.
- Knowledge of hospital, general and community dentistry.
- Previous experience treating a range of patients with special care requirements and complex treatments.
- Proven leadership skills in managing change in clinical settings.
- Good record of achievement in developing clinical practice.
- Experience of dental therapy practice in a GDS, Community Dental Service or Hospital Service.
- Experience working as part of, or leading, a small team.
- Demonstrated effective leadership and management skills.
- Show tact and diplomacy when working with others.
- Welsh language skills desirable (levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading and writing).
- Evidence of presenting to groups.
- Shows empathy and compassion towards others.
- Treat others as individuals with dignity and respect.
- Shows resilience, adaptability, a flexible approach, and positivity in challenging situations.
- Motivated to initiate problem recognition and solution seeking, empowering others.
Essential Criteria
- Ability to travel within the geographical area and work flexible hours.
- Current clean full driving licence.
- Satisfactory enhanced DBS clearance, including an Adults and Children Barred List check.
