Position: Lecturer in Initial Teacher Education: PGCE Primary

Overview

Location:

Singleton Campus, Swansea. The Department of Education and Childhood Studies is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Initial Teacher Education to contribute to the delivery, development and enhancement of the PGCE Primary programme. This is an opportunity to join a committed ITE team and support the professional learning of future primary teachers in Wales. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, assessment and student support across the PGCE Primary programme, working with university colleagues and partnership schools to support high‑quality Initial Teacher Education.

The role includes helping student teachers develop curriculum knowledge, pedagogical understanding, reflective practice and confidence as beginning teachers. A particular focus is supporting provision in relation to the Humanities Area of Learning and Experience (AoLE), including subject knowledge, curriculum planning, pedagogical approaches and integration of Humanities within primary practice. The post is offered as a permanent 0.2 FTE Education Pathway appointment based at Singleton Campus.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver, develop and enhance the PGCE Primary programme in collaboration with university colleagues and partnership schools.
  • Contribute to teaching, assessment and student support across the PGCE Primary programme.
  • Support student teachers in developing curriculum knowledge, pedagogical understanding, reflective practice and professional confidence.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure high quality Initial Teacher Education provision.
  • Support the Humanities AoLE with subject knowledge, curriculum planning and pedagogical approaches within primary practice.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Relevant experience of teaching in the primary phase.
  • Strong understanding of Curriculum for Wales, including progression, pedagogy, assessment and curriculum design.
  • Experience in supporting student learning and professional development in Initial Teacher Education is desirable.
Additional Information
  • Salary: £39,355 to £45,413 per annum.
