Job Description & How to Apply Below
Are you an electronics repair technician who enjoys finding out why something isn't working and then fixing it? At Sonardyne, we design and manufacture sophisticated underwater technology that's used around the world. But even the best technology occasionally needs some expert attention. That's where you come in. We're looking for an Repair Technician to join our Repair & Test team at our headquarters in Yateley.
This is a genuinely hands-on electronics role where you'll test, diagnose, fault-find and repair Sonardyne equipment working from complete products right down to individual components on a PCB. If you're happiest with a circuit diagram in front of you, test equipment on the bench and an electronic fault that needs solving, we'd love to hear from you. What will you be doing?
You'll be responsible for carrying out rigorous electronic testing and repair across a wide range of Sonardyne products, making sure our equipment meets the high quality and performance standards our customers expect. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Testing, adjusting, diagnosing and repairing Sonardyne electronic products. Fault-finding at PCB, chassis, final assembly and component level . Using electronic test equipment including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies and other diagnostic equipment. Reading and interpreting circuit diagrams, engineering drawings, assembly drawings and other technical information. Identifying the root cause of electronic faults and carrying out repairs where appropriate. Highlighting potential specification or design issues to the relevant Engineer or Supervisor and helping to resolve them.
Inspecting returned equipment and providing the technical information needed to support repair quotations. Recording repair and test activity accurately using our ERP and departmental systems. Working closely with colleagues across Repair, Test, Engineering, Sales Administration and Manufacturing. Supporting other Repair Technicians when required and sharing your knowledge across the team. Maintaining high standards of workmanship, quality and attention to detail throughout everything you do.
Above all, you'll take a safety-first approach , following our Health & Safety procedures and ensuring your work is completed safely and to the required Sonardyne standards. What are we looking for? We're looking for someone with a strong practical electronics background who enjoys getting into the detail of a problem. You'll ideally have:
An HNC in Electronics , an equivalent qualification in an electronic discipline, or comparable knowledge supported by strong hands-on experience. Proven experience of electronic diagnostic fault-finding down to component level . Practical experience testing and repairing electronic assemblies and PCBs. Confidence using electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DVMs/multimeters and power supplies. The ability to read and interpret circuit diagrams, engineering drawings and technical documentation.
A logical and methodical approach to fault-finding and problem solving. Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality. Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Basic competency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word. Experience working within an electronics manufacturing, repair, test, service or engineering environment would be particularly useful. The person we're looking for Technical skills are important, but so is how you approach the job.
You'll be someone who enjoys solving problems rather than simply identifying them. You'll be comfortable working independently when needed, but equally happy collaborating with technicians and engineers when a particularly stubborn fault needs another pair of eyes. You'll be organised, adaptable and able to prioritise your workload while maintaining high standards, even when customer demand means priorities change. Most importantly, you'll take pride in the quality of your work.
Why Sonardyne? For more than 50 years, Sonardyne has been developing pioneering underwater technology used across the globe. Our technology supports subsea navigation, positioning, communications, ocean science, marine robotics, offshore energy and defence helping our customers operate and understand what's happening beneath the surface of the world's oceans. And because we design, engineer, manufacture, test and support much of our technology ourselves, joining Sonardyne gives you the opportunity to…
