Accountant / Assistant Accountant

Our client are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accountant/Assistant Accountant to support the effective operation of their finance function. This role plays a key part in managing day-to-day accounting processes, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting retail, ticketing, and match day financial activities within a Football Club. The successful candidate will be flexible, organised, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, including availability on match days and evenings as required.
Key Responsibilities- Financial Operations
- Maintain sales ledger including invoicing, statements, and credit control
- Manage purchase ledger, processing invoices and preparing payments
- Maintain cash book and post transactions accurately and promptly
- Perform daily bank reconciliations
- Manage petty cash and reconciliations
- Support operation of the purchase order system
- Regulatory & Reporting Support
- Assist with quarterly VAT returns
- Support monthly payroll data collation and checks
- Stock, Retail & Ticketing
- Maintain stock systems and participate in stock takes
- Record daily retail and ticketing income accurately
- Provide operational finance support to shop and ticketing teams
- Match Day Finance Duties
- Prepare and distribute cash floats
- Issue and collect card machines
- Count, reconcile, and report all match day income
- Experience in accounting or finance operations
- Strong attention to detail and high levels of accuracy
- Confident IT skills with good analytical ability
- Strong communication skills and professionalism
- Flexible approach to working hours, including match days/evenings
- Experience using Sage 50 Accounts
- Background in retail, ticketing, or sports/entertainment finance
- A varied and hands-on finance role in a dynamic environment
