We are seeking an Employment Tax Advisor to join our consulting firm’s tax advisory team. The role involves providing technical employment tax advice to a diverse client base, supporting compliance obligations, and advising on employment-related tax risks and opportunities. You will work closely with HR, payroll, finance teams, and senior stakeholders to deliver practical, commercial solutions.
Key Responsibilities Advisory & Consulting- Provide advice on employment tax matters including PAYE, NICs, benefits in kind, termination payments, share schemes, and off-payroll working (IR35).
- Support clients with employment tax aspects of business changes such as restructures, acquisitions, international assignments, and workforce transformation.
- Advise on tax‑efficient reward, benefits, and incentive arrangements.
- Assist with HMRC enquiries, audits, and disclosures, including preparing responses and negotiating outcomes.
- Review and support employment tax compliance processes, including P11
Ds, PSA calculations, PAYE reviews, and payroll audits. - Identify risks, errors, and opportunities within payroll and employment tax processes and recommend improvements.
- Ensure advice and deliverables are technically accurate and compliant with current legislation.
- Build strong relationships with clients, acting as a trusted advisor.
- Communicate complex tax matters clearly and pragmatically to non‑tax specialists.
- Collaborate with colleagues across tax, legal, HR, and consulting teams to deliver integrated solutions.
- Keep up to date with changes in employment tax legislation and HMRC guidance.
- Contribute to internal knowledge sharing, training sessions, and thought leadership.
- Support junior team members through coaching and informal mentoring (where applicable).
- Experience in employment tax gained within a consulting firm, professional services, or in‑house tax function.
- Strong technical knowledge of UK employment tax and PAYE.
- Ability to interpret legislation and apply it to real‑world client scenarios.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- CTA, ATT, ACA, ACCA, or part‑qualified (or equivalent experience).
- Experience dealing with HMRC and managing employment tax reviews.
- Exposure to international employment tax or mobility matters.
- Experience working in a consulting or client‑facing environment.
- Commercially minded with a practical approach to problem‑solving.
- Confident, professional, and client‑focused.
- Proactive and keen to take ownership of work.
