An exciting opportunity for an optometrist, ophthalmic nurse or orthoptist to work part time as part of the medical retina ophthalmology team within Swansea Bay University Health Board.
The successful candidate will have weekly sessions working in our consultant‑led medical retina clinics providing an excellent opportunity to develop higher clinical expertise in the field of medical retina. You will work as a highly skilled autonomous senior practitioner and bring expert knowledge in the field of medical retina using specialist testing skills, providing patient‑centred clinical care. The post is intended to improve outcomes for patients by improving timeliness and consistency of care.
Responsibilities- Diagnose and plan, implement and monitor individual treatment plans/care pathways using advanced clinical reasoning and evidence‑based practice for both new and follow‑up patients.
- Work closely with the medical retina consultant ophthalmologist and the non‑medical service lead for medical retina.
- Supervise and give highly specialist advice to members of the multidisciplinary team while ensuring safe practice and compliance with clinical governance through use of policies and protocols.
- Where professional training permits, undertake non‑medical prescribing within sphere of competence in compliance with the non‑medical prescribing policy and professional body guidance (e.g., independent prescribing qualification/medical exemptions qualification).
- Attend advanced training and specialist courses to maintain and develop skills and maintain evidence‑based practice.
- Qualified optometrist, ophthalmic nurse or orthoptist with experience in medical retina preferred.
- Strong clinical reasoning and evidence‑based practice skills.
- Ability to work autonomously as a senior practitioner.
- Desirable: ability to speak Welsh;
English speakers are also welcome.
