Salary: £50,000 - £55,607 per annum (dependent on experience), plus a discretionary annual bonus.
Location:
Hybrid working based in our Swansea office, with an expectation of approximately two days per week onsite. You'll have the flexibility to choose your office days, and free onsite parking is available.

The Role:As our SAP Payroll Configuration Specialist, you'll play a key role in supporting and enhancing SAP ECC6 HR & Payroll for our HMRC client. This is a specialist position focused on payroll configuration rather than payroll processing, giving you the opportunity to work on complex system changes, Personnel Calculation Rules (PCRs), legislative updates, testing, and root cause analysis of escalated payroll issues.
You'll be the go-to expert for delivering robust configuration solutions and ensuring payroll functionality continues to operate smoothly and effectively.
Working closely with colleagues across Payroll, Finance and ICT, you'll support change requests from initial impact assessment through to implementation and testing, while also contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and future payroll projects. We're looking for someone who can hit the ground running, bring strong SAP Payroll configuration experience, and enjoys solving complex challenges in a collaborative and supportive team environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Configure, maintain and enhance SAP ECC6 HR & Payroll solutions, ensuring system changes are delivered accurately and effectively.
- Investigate and resolve complex payroll and system issues escalated by support teams, carrying out detailed root cause analysis and troubleshooting.
- Design and implement payroll configuration changes, including PCRs, in line with client and business requirements.
- Assess, configure and support change requests from initial impact assessment through to implementation and testing.
- Support payroll-related projects, legislative updates and SAP support pack upgrades, ensuring compliance with evolving requirements.
- Carry out system and user acceptance testing (UAT), investigating and resolving defects to ensure successful delivery of changes.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation and ensure configuration changes are recorded in the appropriate repositories and service management systems.
- Collaborate with Payroll, Finance, ICT and client stakeholders to develop and deliver effective SAP HR & Payroll solutions.
- Provide specialist advice and recommendations on SAP functionality, support packs, SAP Notes and continuous improvement opportunities.
- Contribute to the ongoing stability, performance and continuous improvement of the SAP HR & Payroll environment.
Essential:
- Proven experience working with SAP ECC6 Payroll configuration within a complex business environment.
- Strong hands‑on experience configuring payroll functionality, including PCRs.
- Solid understanding of SAP HR and Payroll processes, with knowledge of how HR configuration and data impacts payroll outcomes.
- Experience investigating and resolving complex payroll or system‑related issues, carrying out root cause analysis and implementing solutions.
- Experience assessing, configuring, testing and implementing system changes, enhancements and change requests.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to develop practical solutions to complex technical challenges.
- Self‑motivated, highly organised and able to work independently while managing competing priorities.
- Experience working with SAP Employee Central Payroll (ECP), SAP HCM or Success Factors environments.
- Knowledge of HMRC RTI interfaces and payroll‑related integrations.
- Experience supporting legislative payroll changes, SAP support packs and SAP Notes.
- Experience working within public sector, government or highly regulated environments.
- Knowledge of civil service payroll, pension schemes or statutory absence processes.
