Location: Upper Stratton

Axcis Education is seeking a dedicated and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant (SEND TA) to join a large, inclusive secondary school in Swindon from September. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity, working 8:30am–3:30pm during term time, with the potential to become a permanent position for the right candidate.

This rewarding role is ideal for a qualified Teaching Assistant with experience supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), particularly those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support a range of Key Stage 3 (KS3) students within the school's well-established SEN resource provision. Working alongside a skilled and supportive team, you will help students access learning, build confidence, and achieve their individual goals.

The school supports pupils with a variety of additional needs, including:

* Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

* Communication and Language Difficulties (CLD)

* Challenging behaviour

* Social, emotional, and learning needs

A calm, patient, and adaptable approach is essential for success in this role.

Desirable Skills and Experience

Experience or knowledge of the following would be highly beneficial:

* PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System)

* British Sign Language (BSL)

* Makaton

* Supporting non-verbal students

* Working within secondary education or specialist SEN settings

The Ideal Candidate Will:

* Have previous experience supporting students with SEN/SEND, ideally those with Autism (ASD)

* Be confident adapting learning activities to meet individual needs

* Think creatively and respond effectively to changing situations

* Work well independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

* Build positive relationships and strong rapport with young people

* Demonstrate patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills
