Degrees required or preferred: A minimum of at least 60 hours of college coursework, Required or completion of the Missouri Educator Gateway Assessment (MEGA) Paraprofessional

Performance Expectations:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required.

  • Completed at least 60 credit hours of study at an institution of higher education; or
  • Completed the Missouri Educator Gateway Assessment (MEGA) Paraprofessional; or
  • Obtained an associate’s (or higher) degree.
  • Work on the playground and be responsible for the children’s health, safety and happiness during morning, lunchtime and afternoon play sessions.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills (typing, Word).
  • Paraprofessionals with a baccalaureate degree and an appropriate teaching certificate and/or training may initiate instruction and work independently.
  • Assist in activities assigned by and under the direct control of the teacher.
  • Promote good behavior and manners to ensure that the children are calm and happy.
  • Instigate and play games with the children.
  • Complete any paperwork relating to playtime incidents.
  • Assist in escorting a group of children throughout the day to and from class and after school care.
  • Maintain student schedules and keep students focused on assigned tasks for a specific duration.
  • Assist in responsibility for procedures related to physical and medical needs of students.
  • Prepare and collect materials needed by the teacher in presenting a unit of work.
  • Work with individual students or small groups on activities that have been assigned by the teacher.
  • Assist individual students as directed by the teacher.
  • Supervise students during non-instructional times in the day, such as during the lunch period, when students are entering or leaving buses, while otherwise on school premises, and including duty before/during/after school.
  • Complete recordkeeping tasks as assigned by the teacher.
  • There are occasions where telework might increase district and student access to qualified employees, decrease absenteeism, be an appropriate accommodation for a disability or be a necessary alternative to closing district operations completely during an emergency.
  • Other duties as assigned.

An individual who holds this position:
Is frequently required to stand, stoop, bend and kneel. He/she may have to use therapeutic restraint and will regularly lift students. Must have both close and distance vision.

Salary: Commensurate based on experience

Contract Type: 9 months Non-exempt

This position will start for theschool year.
