Position Overview
Zug Institute for Blockchain Research (ZI ) at the University of Lucerne seeks a professor in Political Economy and Blockchain to establish an interdisciplinary institute covering social, political, legal and economic aspects of blockchain technology. As of August 1, 2026
, the position opens for the Department of Political Science.
- Own and develop the subject area Political Economy and Blockchain
, addressing governance, institutions, policy, and international financial system challenges. - Teach bachelor and master courses, including comparative political economy, international political economy, digitalisation, climate change, inequality, and geopolitical economics.
- Develop and advance further study programmes within the Department of Political Science, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Produce high‑quality research with national and international publications, secure third‑party funding, and obtain awards.
- Contribute to national and international debates on Political Economy and Blockchain through relevant publications and funding.
- Supervise doctoral and post‑doctoral researchers and participate in administrative duties.
- Collaborate across faculties and advance equal‑opportunity policies.
- Doctorate in political science, economics or a closely related field; for full professor habilitation or equivalent required.
- Strong research record with national and international publications, secured funding, and awards in political economy and digital transformation.
- Experience in interdisciplinary teaching and programme development.
- Excellent communication skills in English and German.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity.
- Strong teamwork and social skills, willingness to supervise and engage in administrative responsibilities.
