Position Overview

Educational Assistant Level IV
- Mentor:
Under the direction of administration, provides guidance, training, and professional support to new or seasoned EAs within the school district. Acts as a bridge between administrative goals and classroom practice, ensuring that support staff can effectively assist students with diverse learning and behavioral needs.

Note:

Education Assistants proficient in a second language, American Sign Language, or Braille will earn an additional $.75 above the hourly wage when it is a regular requirement for the position.

Primary Responsibilities
  • 70% Mentorship and Instructional Support
    • Provide on-the-job training and job shadowing for colleagues.
    • Provide constructive feedback to assist colleagues in improving instructional and behavioral management skills.
    • Model effective instructional strategies and assist with lesson differentiation.
    • Guide EAs in using Positive Behavior Support and de-escalation techniques for complex learners.
    • Help implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
    • Assist staff with understanding special education protocols.
    • Observe and support staff in handling conflict resolution.
    • Maintain confidentiality regarding staff and student observations.
  • 25% Training, Collaboration, and Documentation
    • Lead orientation sessions for new hires.
    • Facilitate professional development workshops on classroom management and other topics.
    • Maintain mentoring logs to track progress of mentees.
    • Consult with school administrators or district principals regarding staff growth plans.
    • Coordinate schedules to facilitate mentoring observations.
    • Generate reports or documentation regarding training completion.
  • 5% Professional Development
    • Attend meetings, in-services, and workshops as required.
Qualifications
  • Must meet highly qualified standards as defined by the state
    • Completion of AA degree, 60 college level credits or completion of para-pro exam
    • Completion of a pre-employment physical and drug screen is also required
    • Have reliable transportation to visit multiple sites
