Enables each child to pursue his education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of his/her regular teacher.

Qualifications
  • 1. Certification:
    Valid Illinois Professional Educator's or Substitute License registered in Lake County
  • 2.

    Education:

    A. Required - Bachelor's Degree
  • 3.

    Experience:

    A. Preferred - Classroom teaching experience
Essential Performance Responsibilities
  • Reports to the building principal or school secretary upon arrival at the school building
  • Reviews with the principal, department head, or team leader all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day
  • Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which he is assigned
  • Teachers the lesson outlined and described in the Substitute Teacher's Guide as prepared by the absent teacher
  • Consults as appropriate, with the school principal, department head, or team leader, be initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the Substitute Teacher's Guide
  • Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class and during lunch and recess periods
  • Reports in writing, on the day's activities at the conclusion of each teaching day
  • Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates
  • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the School Principal

    Skills and Abilities
    • Planning and Preparation – Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogy, students, and resources. Design coherent instruction and select appropriate instructional activities, and has the ability to assess students learning.
    • Classroom Environment – Creates an environment of respect and report, establishes a culture for learning, manages classroom procedures, manages students behavior, and has the ability to organize physical space.
    • Instruction – Communicates clearly and accurately, uses questioning and discussion techniques, engages students in learning, provides feedback to students, and demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness.
    • Professional Responsibility – Reflects on teaching, maintains accurate records, communicates professionally, contributes to the school and district, grows and develops professionally, and shows professionalism.

    Technical: Competent in digital environments; iPads, Chromebooks databases, spreadsheets, publishing software, Microsoft Office, Google applications etc.

    Interpersonal: Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, parents, businesses and community. Strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills. Empathetic, humanistic and open-minded. Strong sense of teamwork. Strategic thinker. Must be able to work harmoniously with the community, students, parents, staff, and administration, etc. Must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents and staff in both English and Spanish.

    Must exhibit sound judgment in dealing with people. Must have strong organizational skills.
