Substitute Teacher

A substitute teacher fills in for a regular classroom teacher who is absent, ensuring that instruction and classroom routines continue smoothly.

• Follow lesson plans:
  Implement the teacher’s prepared plans and maintain the day’s schedule.
• Classroom management:
  Keep students on task, maintain discipline, and create a safe, respectful environment.
• Deliver instruction:
  Explain assignments, answer questions, and support learning across subjects.
• Attendance & records:
  Take attendance and note any issues or incidents during the day.
• Communication:
  Leave detailed notes for the regular teacher about what was covered, student behavior, and any concerns.

• Patience and professionalism
• Basic subject knowledge (varies by grade/subject)

• High school diploma or bachelor’s degree (requirements vary by district)
• Substitute teaching permit or certification (depending on location)
• Background check and/or fingerprinting
