A global pharmaceutical / biotechnology organisation is seeking a Process & Equipment Engineer to support manufacturing operations through engineering expertise, maintenance coordination, and project execution. The role is part of the Site Engineering / Plant Engineering department and focuses on ensuring reliable, compliant, and cost-effective operation of production facilities in line with GMP and cGxP requirements.
In this position, you will plan and execute small to medium-sized engineering projects, including process calculations, plant optimisations, feasibility studies for new installations and modifications to existing facilities. You will support ongoing operations through risk assessments, trial runs, changeovers, and technical troubleshooting, while also acting as a deputy and participating in departmental on-call duties as required.
You will play a key role in ensuring technically sound and economically efficient maintenance activities, maintaining high equipment availability, and liaising with regulatory authorities when necessary. Working closely with production, maintenance, and workshop teams, you will also support training activities and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the site.
- Engineering degree (University, University of Applied Sciences FH, or Technical College HF) in Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related discipline
- Professional experience in an industrial environment, ideally within pharmaceutical or biotechnology manufacturing
- Solid knowledge of GMP / cGxP requirements and change management processes
- Experience working with SAP (work order management, technical-commercial evaluations, capacity planning, and resource optimisation)
- Experience planning and executing technical modifications, optimisations, and small-scale investment projects
- Ability to perform feasibility studies, cost estimations, scheduling, and functional assessments for plant modifications
- Experience conducting risk analyses, supporting trial operations, and implementing operational changes
- Strong organisational skills with a structured, focused, and well-organised working style
- Independent, flexible, and solution-oriented approach with strong team collaboration skills
- Good communication skills across technical and operational stakeholders
- Fluent German and good English skills (spoken and written)
- Experience with COMOS or similar plant engineering / asset management software
- Experience in maintenance planning and lifecycle management of production facilities
- Familiarity with regulatory inspections and interactions with authorities
- Experience supporting or delivering training for plant operators and maintenance personnel
- Knowledge of safety, hygiene, environmental, and quality requirements in regulated manufacturing environments
- Planning and execution of partial and small engineering projects, including process calculations and plant optimisations
- Preparation of feasibility studies for new installations and modifications, including cost, timeline, and functionality assessments
- Ensuring compliant and cost-efficient maintenance execution while maintaining high plant availability
- Budget monitoring and support for maintenance, modifications, and capital investments
- Maintenance and continuous update of plant documentation (PFDs, layouts, zoning plans, BOMs, GMP change documentation)
- Use of SAP for work orders, evaluations, and capacity planning
- Support of training activities for plant operators and workshop personnel in process, equipment, safety, hygiene, environmental, and quality topics (cGMP)
