📌Job description:
The Train Safety Engineer is responsible for ensuring the functional and regulatory safety of a metro modernization project.
The role consists of leading safety analyses, developing the complete Safety Case, and securing compliance with CENELEC standards (EN 50126 / 50128 / 50129), in close coordination with engineering teams and independent safety assessment bodies (ASBO / NOBO).
🛠️ Your responsibilities:1. Safety Analyses and Risk Assessments
Carry out and lead safety analyses, including:
- PHA (Preliminary Hazard Analysis)
- HAZOP
- FMECA / FMEA
- FTA (Fault Tree Analysis)
Identify, evaluate, document, and trace hazards and safety measures throughout the lifecycle.
Manage and update hazard logs and safety requirements.
2. Standards and Regulatory ComplianceApply and ensure compliance with CENELEC standards:
- EN 50126 (RAMS)
- EN 50128 (software for railway control)
- EN 50129 (safety-related systems for signalling/control)
Produce, review, and validate required RAMS deliverables.
3. Safety Case DevelopmentPrepare, structure, and maintain the full Safety Case for the project, ensuring evidence consistency and traceability.
Manage the full assessment process with independent bodies:
- ASBO (Assessment Body)
- NOBO (Notified Body)
Address findings, coordinate corrective actions, and lead technical discussions with assessors.
4. Technical System ExpertiseStrong understanding of rolling stock systems, including:
- TCMS (Train Control & Monitoring System)
- Traction systems
- Auxiliary systems
Door systems Ability to interact efficiently with system engineers, understand architectures, and assess failure modes and interfaces.
5. Coordination and Cross-Functional SupportCollaborate closely with engineering teams (system, software, mechanical, validation).
Participate in design reviews, test strategy discussions, and safety evidence consolidation.
Contribute to customer meetings and internal technical workshops.
💼 Profile:Education
- Engineering degree or equivalent in electrical, mechanical, automation, systems engineering, or safety/RAMS.
- RAMS specialization is an asset.
Strong experience in railway safety engineering, including:
- Metro projects
- Regional / mainline rolling stock
- Upgrade / modernization / change management projects
Proven experience managing a complete Safety Case through to final assessment with ASBO / NOBO (TÜV) and OFT.
Technical Skills- Full command of PHA, HAZOP, FMECA, FTA methodologies.
- Deep knowledge of EN 50126 / 50128 / 50129.
- Good understanding of TCMS, traction, auxiliary and door subsystems.
- Strong analytical mindset, rigor, and technical writing skills.
- Clear communication and ability to defend technical arguments.
- Autonomy and ability to work with multidisciplinary teams.
- Fluent French
