Algorized is a VC-funded Silicon Valley deep-tech company with Swiss roots building edge-AI models that give robots real-time human awareness using existing wireless sensors, enabling safer human-machine co-presence.
We're looking for a Safety Software Engineer passionate about robotics and functional safety, to help architect the safety envelope around people-sensing systems for stationary and mobile platforms in the industrial and automotive applications under compliant with PLd and SIL 2 rating.
Key Responsibilities- Design and maintain PLd and SIL 2 safety-rated software: watchdog supervision, plausibility checks, diagnostics, and safe-state logic
- Architect and implement the certified safety envelope for people-sensing software on the application and system level
- Develop safety applications following related IEC / ISO standards for industrial and automotive
- Design integration path with I/O, EtherCAT, CIP Safety (Ethernet IP) or ProfiSAFE (Profinet) protocols
- Own safety documentation: requirements specs, architecture docs, FMEA, diagnostic coverage analysis, V&V test plans
- Support integration, and maintenance of safety systems, including customer-site travel
Collaborate with algorithms team, software engineers and product teams to define the safety strategy
- MSc in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years professional software development, including 2-3+ years on functional safety systems (ISO 13849, ISO 13855 and IEC 61508-3, or equivalent)
- Strong C/C++ in safety-critical or embedded environments, with working knowledge of MISRA-C
- Hands-on experience with safety-rated MCUs/controllers
- Practical knowledge of industrial safety fieldbus protocols and safe I/O integration with robot/PLC controllers
- Experience producing safety documentation (FMEA, DC analysis, V&V test plans)
- Familiarity with embedded/edge environments (ARM, Linux, RTOS) and QM-to-certified-safety integration patterns
- Comfortable with on-site installation, commissioning, and customer-site travel
- Strong communication skills across software, hardware, and ML teams
- Experience integrating safety systems with industrial robot controllers
- Python for tooling, test automation, or ML pipeline integration
- Familiarity with edge-AI SoCs / GPU-based compute platforms
- Embedded RTOS experience
- Prior involvement in a formal safety certification process
