For our High Performance Computing and Emerging Technologies group within the Science IT, Infrastructure and Services department we are looking for a

Scientific Computing Systems Engineer
  • Serve as the main systems engineer for PSI’s WLCG Tier‑3 cluster computing infrastructure supporting the CERN CMS experiment
  • Operate, maintain, and improve Linux‑based research‑computing services and infrastructure
  • Support and interact with the Swiss CMS computing user community using the Tier‑3 infrastructure
  • Collaborate with the national WLCG Tier‑2 center operated by the Swiss National Supercomputing Center CSCS
  • Contribute to the shared operational responsibilities and mutual backup within our HPC/HTC services for PSI
  • Contribute to the planning and evolution of future Tier‑3 and Tier‑2 infrastructure and services in preparation for the High‑Luminosity LHC (HL‑LHC) era
Your profile
  • Strong expertise in Linux systems administration within production or research‑computing environments
  • Experience with automation and Dev Ops practices, including configuration management tools such as Ansible or Puppet, scripting in Bash and Python, Git‑based workflows, and preferably CI/CD and infrastructure‑as‑code concepts
  • Experience with monitoring, troubleshooting, and debugging complex system and software issues in production environments
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Familiarity with batch systems, distributed computing infrastructure, container technologies, or high‑throughput computing environments is advantageous
  • Familiarity with WLCG infrastructure and services or scientific computing environments is a plus
