Job Description

We are searching for the best talent for a Data Scientist
, located at any DePuy Synthes site location. This position will report directly to the PMS/CQ Data Analytics Performance Manager.

Purpose

The Data Scientist will be responsible for post market surveillance data analytics projects for DePuy Synthes which span across multiple orthopaedics product platforms such as Trauma & Extremities, Joint Reconstruction, Spine, Sports Medicine, Craniomaxillofacial & Thoracic, Biomaterials and VELYS Enabling Technology. As a Data Scientist, you will analyze large post market datasets to support the identification of post market quality issues and trends.

The Data Scientist will collaborate with a team of engineers, data scientists, and clinicians to support routine post market surveillance processes (e.g. complaint trending, quality system documentation, corrective action, signal detection, audit, documentation, analytics etc.) as well as ad-hoc projects.

You Will Be Responsible For
  • Complete analysis of post-market and related datasets (e.g., product complaints, malfunctions, adverse events, capital equipment service records, clinical reviews, registries, post-market studies, literature) to identify safety and quality signals and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Perform data manipulation, automation, and reproducible analyses using R (including Shiny), Python, and SQL; create scripts and pipelines to streamline routine processes.
  • Apply a broad set of data science techniques — data visualization, pre-processing, categorical analysis, text mining, statistical methodologies, data science strategies, data management, AI, etc. — to projects with timelines ranging from hours to weeks.
  • Execute complaint trending and signal detection processes in accordance with regulatory and quality system requirements, ensuring traceability and documentation.
  • Preform data analysis to support cross-functional stakeholder investigations, audits, CAPAs, field actions and regulatory inquiries.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to monitor key metrics, surface trends, and measure the impact of interventions.
  • Propose and implement process and analytical improvements (including alternative methods and algorithms) to challenge the status quo and increase surveillance effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Follow software development best practices: version control, clear documentation, testing, and reproducible code.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in a technical or clinical field (e.g. Epidemiology, Biomedical Engineering, Data Science, Biostatistics, Applied Statistics, Business Analytics, Life Sciences, Quality Engineering, Health Informatics etc.) is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience is required.
  • A background in statistical/data analysis, data management and processes including knowledge of data science and management software technology is required.
  • Experience cleaning and summarizing large data sets is required.
  • Competency using and writing scripts with the R Programming language to analyze data is required.
