CustodianJob Description Position Purpose
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment within assigned district facilities. This position supports daily school operations by performing routine cleaning, basic maintenance tasks, and event setup to ensure a positive learning environment for students, staff, and visitors.
ScheduleMonday-Friday, 2:30pm-11:00pm. Occasional weekends for event set‑up and clean‑up.
FLSA ClassificationNon‑Exempt;
Full‑Time.
Performance will be evaluated by the Custodial Supervisor in accordance with Board policy GDN:
Evaluation of Support Staff.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous custodial or cleaning experience preferred, but not required.
- OSHA 10‑hour General Industry certification is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
- Ability to follow directions and complete assigned tasks independently.
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively with staff, students, and the public.
- Willingness to learn and follow safety procedures.
- Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

- Clean classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, and common areas.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain floors.
- Empty trash and recycling containers.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms and replenish supplies.
- Dust furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
- Clean windows, doors, and glass surfaces as assigned.
- Operate equipment for cleaning and floor maintenance purposes.
- Set up and tear down for events and activities.
- Assist with minor maintenance tasks as assigned.
- Report maintenance needs, safety concerns, or damages promptly.
- Follow proper procedures for handling and storing cleaning chemicals.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Follow established safety guidelines and district procedures.
- Complete assigned work orders and daily task lists.
- Maintain cleaning equipment and ensure proper use.
- Secure buildings (lock/unlock doors) as assigned.
- Assist with seasonal or deep‑cleaning projects.
- Work occasional evenings and weekends.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Demonstrates quality character traits, including commitment, dependability, integrity, and fairness.
- Dependable and punctual.
- Works efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Maintains a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Communicates effectively with supervisors and team members.
- Adheres to all district policies and legal requirements.
The employee may stand, walk, and perform physical labor for extended periods throughout the workday. Occasionally lifts, carries, or moves objects up to 50 pounds. May occasionally climb ladders or access elevated areas. Periodically bends, stoops, or kneels. Occasionally reaches overhead or at varying heights. May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, mechanical equipment, cleaning chemicals, dust, and varying environmental conditions.
Termsof Employment
Twelve‑month employee with full‑time benefits as established by the Board of Education. Paid holidays, PTO, and vacation days. This is an at‑will position that may be terminated by either the school district or the employee with appropriate notice. Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience and aligned with the board‑approved classified salary schedule.
