PURPOSECoordinate and manage building health services and the district's comprehensive school health program to promote the health and wellness of students and staff. Duties are performed in accordance with professional school nursing standards, the Illinois Nursing and Advanced Practice Nursing Act, and district, state, and national policies and regulations.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES- Provide professional nursing services, including first aid, illness, and emergency care for students and staff, ensuring compliance with state laws and district protocols, as directed by administration.
- Conduct Medical Necessity Reviews for students with IEPs and known or suspected medical conditions.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to identify, evaluate, and support students with health-related needs, contributing to IEP/504 plans and educational modifications as appropriate.
- Develop, implement, and maintain individualized health care plans (IHPs) and emergency care plans for students with special needs, including those incorporated into IEPs or 504 Plans.
- Assess and address student health and safety issues, including abuse and neglect, as a mandated reporter.
- Establish district protocols to monitor effectiveness and documentation.
- Oversee district state reporting in IWAS for the Health Services Department
- Conduct state and federally mandated health screenings (e.g., vision, hearing, growth, and development), and provide follow‑up care or referrals as necessary.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student health records, including immunization compliance, physical exams, and medical histories.
- Maintain the Health Services section of the district website.
- Plan and implement school immunization and stock undesignated medication programs in collaboration with local healthcare providers.
- Manage communicable disease protocols, including clearance for re‑entry to school.
- Train and orient health services and administrative staff on health‑related topics, including specific student care procedures, state reporting, communicable disease protocols, and communication.
- Act as a liaison between the school, families, healthcare providers, and community agencies to promote health and wellness.
- Provide health education and anticipatory guidance to students, staff, and parents on topics promoting a healthy lifestyle.
- Maintain and monitor clinic equipment and supplies, preparing annual orders as needed.
- Participate in crisis intervention, providing emotional support and counseling during traumatic events or emergencies.
- Assist students with special education needs in adjusting to physical, emotional, or health limitations.
- Coordinate compliance with communicable disease regulations and submit required health reports to the health department.
- Maintain communication with school personnel, parents, and administrators to address student health and safety needs.
- Participate as a member of the crisis response team, offering intervention during emergencies or school‑wide crises, as needed.
