An insight to the role

Within the R&D Department at Datamars HQ (Lamone), the Validation Engineer is responsible for the verification and validation of Datamars products throughout their lifecycle.

The role ensures that products meet their functional, performance, reliability and quality requirements through structured validation activities covering component, subsystem and system levels.

The Validation Engineer plans and executes validation activities across hardware, firmware, software and integrated solutions, ensuring that products not only function correctly as individual components but also operate effectively as complete customer solutions.

The position supports New Product Development, Product Life Cycle Management and field issue investigations by providing an independent and objective assessment of product readiness and compliance with requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Product Validation Ownership

• Own validation activities across assigned products and product families.
• Define validation strategies covering component, subsystem and system levels.
• Ensure verification and validation activities are completed before product release.
• Provide objective recommendations regarding product readiness.

Component and Functional Verification

• Review technical requirements and specifications.
• Design and execute tests to validate mechanical, hardware, firmware and software functionality.
• Verify modifications to existing products and assess regression risks.
• Maintain traceability between requirements, test cases and results.

System Validation

• Design and execute end-to-end validation scenarios representing real customer usage.
• Validate interactions between devices, applications, cloud services and external systems.
• Verify customer workflows and operational use cases.
• Identify integration issues and system-level risks.

Investigation and Problem Solving

• Reproduce and analyse field-reported issues.
• Support root-cause investigations with development teams.
• Verify corrective actions and implemented solutions.

Continuous Improvement

• Develop and improve validation methodologies, processes and tools.
• Contribute to test automation initiatives where appropriate.
• Support standardisation of validation practices across the portfolio.

Key success factors

• BSc in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline.
• Minimum 3-5 years of proven experience in product validation, system testing, field applications or integration activities.
• Good understanding of complex electromechanical systems and their interactions.
• Good knowledge and practical experience of verification and validation methodologies.
• Experience designing and executing test plans, test procedures and test reports.
• Hands-on experience with electronic boards, including soldering, measurements, debugging, probing and schematic interpretation.
• Ability to analyse technical specifications and derive validation activities from requirements.
• Experience working across hardware, firmware and software disciplines.
• Experience in high-level software development, scripting or test automation is a plus.
• Familiarity with cloud-connected products, mobile applications and system integrations is a plus.
• Good understanding of agricultural environments and livestock applications is a plus.
• Experience with RFID technologies, LF, HF or UHF communication systems is a plus.
• Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate activities across multiple development teams.
• Good written and spoken English.
• Willingness to occasionally travel.
