To support this mission, Syngenta's Hiring Team is seeking an Onsite Scientist Process Research Chemistry in Stein, Switzerland.
We're seeking a talented scientist to join our Process Research Chemistry Team within Crop Protection Research in Stein. In this hands‑on laboratory role, you will design and execute practical process chemistry work—developing scalable, safe, and cost‑effective synthetic routes for crop protection candidates. Whether you're a highly skilled Laborant with deep applied chemistry expertise or hold a master's degree in organic chemistry, we value resourceful scientists who combine strong bench skills with a process‑oriented mindset.
Accountabilities- Independently plan and execute route scouting and process optimization studies using a broad range of synthetic and analytical techniques.
- Characterize reaction profiles, outcomes, and document process understanding to support scale‑up decisions.
- Take ownership of your work, proactively solving synthetic problems and applying new methods or technologies to improve processes.
- Ensure highest standards of laboratory safety and HSE compliance.
- Maintain high standards of laboratory productivity, data quality, and electronic laboratory notebook documentation.
- Report regularly on process chemistry findings in oral and written form.
- MSc in Chemistry, or vocational chemistry training (Laborant) with demonstrated applied synthesis experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in multi‑step synthesis, reaction optimisation, and standard purification/characterisation techniques (HPLC, NMR, crystallisation, flash chromatography).
- Solid understanding of organic reaction mechanisms and functional group transformations.
- Results‑oriented mindset with strong practical skills and attention to detail in the laboratory.
- Good planning skills and ability to deliver under time pressure.
- Self‑motivated with initiative to continuously develop technical expertise.
- Collaborative spirit and clear communication skills.
- Fluency in English, written and spoken.
