Bus Route Driver- HEALTH Insurance

Applications will be accepted beginning Thursday, February 27, 2025 12:00 AM (Eastern Standard Time).

RCPS is seeking qualified school bus drivers. This position offers health insurance.

School Bus Drivers must possess or have the ability to acquire an appropriate commercial driver’s license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia; must pass a physical examination as prescribed by the Virginia Department of Education; and possess and maintain a satisfactory driving record from the Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles that meets state requirements and indicates positive driving points.

• Drive school bus and pick up and deliver students to/from school.
• Perform pre-trip inspection of school bus; report operating and equipment deficiencies.
• Wash and sanitize the bus.
• Fuel the bus as required.
• Obey all traffic laws and observe mandatory safety regulations for school bus operations.
• Transport only authorized students, school personnel and/or authorized chaperones on special trips.
• Report all accidents and complete required reports.
• Transport students to special events and field trips.
• Record mileage; maintain various records and prepare a variety of reports on activities.
• Ensure passenger safety; maintain discipline on the bus; make reports as necessary.
• Make bus available for scheduled maintenance and/or repairs.
• Perform related tasks as required.

General knowledge of the problems involved in operating a school bus; general knowledge of the geography of the City and the location of streets; skill in the safe operation of a school bus; ability to detect malfunctioning equipment; ability to assist children using patience and understanding; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, public, associates, and students.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.

Possession of or ability to acquire an appropriate commercial driver’s license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia; must pass a physical examination as prescribed by the Department of Education of the Commonwealth of Virginia; and must maintain a satisfactory driving record from the Division of Motor Vehicles that meets state requirements and indicates positive driving points.
