Build Nova Scotia is seeking a finance student for the summer of 2026. Working closely with the department's staff responsible for accounting and finance, the student will gain practical experience and knowledge of working in a provincial government accounting and finance environment.
QualificationsThe ideal candidate is currently enrolled in an accounting or finance program and returning to school in fall 2026. Students enrolled in other post-secondary programs are also encouraged to apply. Candidates should possess a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, display strong organizational and analytical skills, and be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and database programs is required.
Knowledge of online meeting platforms such as MS Teams and Zoom is also an asset.
Reporting to the Sr Finance Manager, the summer student will be responsible for the following accountabilities:
- Supports in reconciling accounting statements and reports discrepancies
- Verifies purchases against statements, maintains appropriate files
- Follow up on purchasing/accounting discrepancies
- Prepare purchasing and accounting forms for approval electronically or via SAP
- Sort through incoming financial documents and action timely distribution of documents
- Assist in preparation of requisitions and invoices
- Investigate transactional processing inquiries through phone, mail, email etc.
- Complete accurate data entry/filing of documents (both electronic and hard copy)
- Complete other duties and process improvement tasks as required.
Sydney, NS will be the location of work.
Normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day.
Work is conducted in a professional office environment.
Additional InformationThis opportunity will start approximately early May 2026 and end late August 2026.
Rate of pay for students is established based on current academic level.
