EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

CBU invites applications for the full-time continuing position of Simulation Project Manager to support the launch and ongoing operations of the simulation-based education program within the Cape Breton Medical Campus.

The Simulation Project Manager will lead the design, development, implementation, and delivery of simulation training that supports both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education in Cape Breton. This role will be integral to curriculum support, faculty development, and clinical education across CBMC’s teaching sites.

Reporting to the Assistant Deans of Pre-Clerkship and Clerkship, the incumbent will develop a comprehensive implementation plan, coordinate faculty training, and ensure technical and pedagogical excellence in simulation programming.

Key Responsibilities

Program Development:

  • Design and implement simulation lab procedures and policies.
  • Develop high-quality simulation scenarios aligned with medical education accreditation standards.
  • Support the integration of simulation into undergraduate and postgraduate medical curricula.
  • Train faculty in simulation pedagogy, including pre-briefing, facilitation, and debriefing.
  • Establish a framework for evaluating learner outcomes and simulation effectiveness.
  • Prepare operational and staffing budgets for simulation-related activities.

Program Delivery & Operations:

  • Coordinate simulation-based events and clinical education sessions.
  • Develop schedules for simulation activities aligned with curriculum timelines.
  • Support faculty in simulation instruction at both CBMC and affiliated clinical sites.
  • Foster a respectful and safe learning environment grounded in reflection and confidentiality.

Technical Oversight & Administration:

  • Maintain an inventory of simulation equipment across CBMC and clinical teaching sites.
  • Establish systems for equipment maintenance, cleaning, repairs, and usage tracking.
  • Provide on-site technical support and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure alignment with current simulation safety protocols and best practices.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Formal education with a focus on adult education or health profession degree. Certification as a Healthcare Simulation Educator will be considered an asset;
  • A minimum of five years progressive experience in the health/medical education field including project management and educational programming;
  • Clinical knowledge and experience in health care related fields such as EMT, paramedical or other health professional certification and training;
  • Certification and experience in course delivery for BLS, ACLS, PALS and NRP would be considered an asset;
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical and non-technical audiences;
  • Experience managing multiple major clients either internally or in a professional services environment;
  • Highly efficient team player, with the ability to also work independently in a fast-paced, fluid environment;
  • Mechanical and technical skills to competently maintain and use equipment in the simulation’s Centre’s;
  • Organizational and time management skills to keep materials in order, track various projects, maintain files and follow through assignments to completion;
  • Physical ability to lift, move, maintain and set up computer, audio-visual and simulation lab equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. without assistance.

Working Conditions

  • Some evening and weekend work required to support simulation events. Must have access to reliable transportation.
  • Travel to clinical sites across Nova Scotia will be expected.
