Laboratory Technician

Agapyo has created a better polymer resin that can achieve cost parity with petroplastics and help to solve the global microplastics crisis. At Agapyo, we are committed to combatting plastic waste by developing innovative and compostable alternatives to our everyday plastic needs. Agapyo is expanding the capabilities of its lignocellulosic product. We are hiring the candidate to work at the Verschuren Centre to build a deep, fundamental understanding of our meltable wood.

The Verschuren Centre Inc. is an independent clean technology development and deployment facility.

• Prepare chemical solutions and samples for laboratory testing and external analysis according to established procedures.
• Conduct laboratory testing, analyses, and experiments in support of research, development, and production activities under the direction of scientists.
• Assist with experimental design, method development, optimization, validation, and process scale-up activities.
• Record, analyze, organize, and report experimental data, maintaining laboratory notebooks and electronic records in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory safety, chemical handling, environmental, and waste disposal regulations.
• Monitor laboratory inventory and assist with ordering chemicals, consumables, and supplies.
• Support pilot-scale and laboratory-scale development projects, including sample preparation, testing, and data collection.
• Conduct literature reviews and summarize findings to support technical projects.
• Participate in laboratory housekeeping and maintain a clean, organized work environment.

• An MSc, or BSc with two years hands on-experience in Wet Chemistry Laboratory.
• Experience working with polymer/biopolymer formulations is an asset.
• Interest and knowledge of QA standards and procedures.
• Familiar with laboratory operations, maintenance of specialized equipment, and occupational health and safety of laboratory environments.
• Excellent communication and strong organization skills with the ability to work independently, and as a member of a team in a fast-paced, creative work environment.
