Position: SARSET FACILITATOR

Native Council of Nova Scotia is a native advocacy organization representing, promoting, and advancing the self-governing Institutions of the off-reserve Aboriginal Mi’kmaq of Nova Scotia. "Going Forward To A Better Future". To further the objective of improving the social, cultural, educational, and employment situation of the off-reserve Mi’kmaq/Aboriginal peoples.

Position Title:

SARSET FACILITATOR

Location:

Native Council of Nova Scotia, Sydney Regional Office, Sydney, NS

Employment Role:

The SARSET Facilitator will work to meet the objective for the Native Council of Nova Scotia to provide assistance through employment counseling and information exchange to Indigenous clients on all aspects of their employment search or career planning. The SARSET Facilitator will further the goal of employment counseling as a process of dynamic interchange between client and counsellor to focus effort on identifying and discussing the client's employment possibilities, establishing realistic training and employment goals, identifying the solutions and corrective action needed to achieve these goals, including development and agreement to a return to work action plan.

The SARSET Facilitator will use the established principles in applying the four dimensions of employability counseling as a joint problem-solving service between worker-client designed to achieve informed decisions and take effective action to improve the person's employability. Given the nature of work and the multiple actions associated with the position and the very sensitive information gathered in an array of forms, any breach of confidentiality would be deemed just cause for immediate dismissal.

Knowledge

and

Skills Required:

Knowledge of the off-reserve Indigenous people’s issues, ability to communicate effectively, possession of social work related certificate, diplomas, related degree and/or proven equivalent is considered an asset. Complete quarterly statistics, written/oral reporting, practical experience with computers and other general office equipment, professional business department skills, excellent judgement relevant to social concerns and issue, regular basis, applicants must have access to reliable transportation during working hours.

Working

Environment:

Hours of work, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Ability to act quickly to specific tasks, utmost professional confidentiality, some evening and weekend work may be required. Reliable transportation will be required for regional and provincial travel.

Salary and Position:

Term Position: negotiable, possible renewal
