Tax Manager – Tax & Compliance (GBQ Partners)

Oversee all aspects of the tax planning, preparation and review process for all tax engagements. Individual also oversees all miscellaneous tax projects and conducts complex tax research to support the client’s tax compliance and reporting. Perform review of all tax work papers and returns and ensure that all review comments are cleared prior to filing. Maintain client relationships and assist firm leadership in identifying new work and assisting in obtaining new engagements.

• Oversee all aspects of tax engagements, including tax planning, preparation and review of corporate, partnership, trust and individual income tax returns.
• Prepare complex corporate, partnership, trust and individual income tax returns and perform necessary tax planning and research.
• Supervise and review all work of seniors, staff, and interns on assigned client engagements.
• Supervise, mentor, train and support the development of seniors, staff and interns.
• Communicate status of work, problems, and findings to both internal GBQ management and clients.
• Collaborate with firm leaders, other departments and client leadership to identify issues and develop and implement solutions.
• Review engagement profitability and prepare and analyze monthly billing for assigned engagements.
• Develop and deliver executive presentations, summaries of financial information and lead client and internal meetings.
• Monitor engagement hours, budgets and timelines to ensure work completes within defined budgets.
• Participate in and lead approved non‑client initiatives to improve firm administration and implement efficiency policies.
• Represent firm and build relationships by attending fundraisers, meetings with prospects and bankers, charitable events, and professional organizations.
• Identify opportunities to obtain new engagements and assist firm leadership in securing new clients.
• Demonstrate strong analytical skills and working knowledge of accounting and tax software.
• Coordinate and collaborate with team and client personnel for efficient data flow and risk mitigation.
• Identify complex issues, conduct research, and make recommendations to firm and client leadership.
• Exemplify Brand Attributes of the firm and promote a positive work environment.
• Support compliance with administrative policies and procedures.
• Deliver performance evaluations and coaching to direct reports.

• BA or BS in accounting or a related field.
• Must be a CPA.
• Approximately 5–7 years of public accounting experience in tax.
• Strong proficiency in federal, state and local tax issues.
• Strong proficiency with tax research software packages and working knowledge of federal tax code and regulations.

• Directly report to a Performance Manager.
• Co‑manage and supervise Tax Department staff numbering more than 35 people.

• Reliable transportation for occasional on‑site client work.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends based on client demands.
