Accounting Assistant

Location: Woodbury, NY

Type: Onsite | Temp-to-Perm

Pay Rate: $22–$25/hour

Position Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Assistant to support daily financial operations. This role involves preparing journal entries, reconciling general ledger accounts, and delivering timely, accurate reporting. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of basic accounting principles and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and post daily journal entries to general ledger accounts
• Reconcile client general ledger and suspense accounts
• Research and resolve discrepancies in financial records
• Monitor daily settlement activity and ensure accurate balances
• Generate reconciliation summaries and reports for clients
• Participate in client calls to discuss reconciliation items
• Respond to inquiries from internal teams and external stakeholders
• Communicate progress and any issues to management

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
• 1+ years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, accounts payable, or credit
• Working knowledge of general accounting principles (e.g., debits, credits, journal entries)
• Experience with account reconciliation and financial reporting
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office Suite
• Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
• Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
