Location: Nassau County, NY (Long Island), Onsite 4‑5 days per week
Compensation: $170,000 – $190,000 base plus bonus
Our client, a highly regarded law firm with an established reputation for excellence, is seeking a strategic and hands‑on Director of Accounting
. This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing the full spectrum of accounting operations across multiple offices.
The ideal candidate is a CPA‑qualified leader who blends technical expertise in GAAP with the ability to mentor a high‑performing team and serve as a financial partner to the firm’s executive leadership.
Key Responsibilities- Department Leadership: Own and manage all daily accounting operations, including General Ledger, A/P, A/R, specialized legal billing, and a rigorous month‑end close process.
- Financial Reporting & Compliance: Oversee the preparation of comprehensive financial statements, ensuring strict adherence to GAAP and firm policies.
- Team Development: Manage and mentor a dedicated accounting team, fostering a culture of professional growth, collaboration, and high performance.
- Strategic Partnership: Act as a key advisor to leadership by providing actionable financial insights, variance analysis, and data‑driven support for strategic decision‑making.
- Operational Excellence: Design and implement robust internal controls, process improvements, and best practices to enhance departmental efficiency.
- Consolidation & Audits: Ensure the accurate consolidation of financial data across multiple offices/subsidiaries and serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors and tax advisors.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred.
- Experience: 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management capacity.
- Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting; experience managing multi‑entity or multi‑office consolidations is essential.
- Industry Background: While law firm experience is a plus, we welcome leaders from mid‑to‑large corporate environments who understand professional services dynamics.
- Skills: Advanced proficiency in Excel and modern ERP/Accounting systems; exceptional communication skills with the ability to present financial data to non‑finance stakeholders.
