The Human Resources (HR) Benefits Specialist is responsible for administering and managing employee benefits programs, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, and providing guidance to employees regarding benefit options. The role works closely with HR, payroll, finance, and external vendors to ensure accurate and efficient delivery of benefit services.
Key Responsibilities- Administer employee benefits programs including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, retirement plans, and wellness initiatives.
- Process new hire benefit enrollments, changes, and terminations in HRIS/benefits systems.
- Coordinate annual open enrollment activities, including communications, system updates, and employee support.
- Review and audit benefit invoices monthly; reconcile billing discrepancies.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee benefit questions, issues, and escalations.
- Conduct benefits orientations and educational sessions.
- Assist employees with claims resolution and act as liaison between employees and insurance carriers.
- Ensure compliance with ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, ACA, FMLA, and other federal/state regulations.
- Prepare and distribute required notices and regulatory documents.
- Generate and maintain accurate records and benefits reports.
- Assist with annual audits and filings (e.g., Form 5500, ACA reporting).
- Coordinate with insurance carriers, brokers, and third‑party administrators.
- Review plan performance, recommend improvements, and support renewal processes.
- Partner with payroll to ensure accurate deductions and benefit‑related transactions.
- Maintain data integrity in HRIS and benefits platforms.
- Support HR projects and cross‑functional initiatives as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (preferred).
- 25 years of experience in benefits administration or HR generalist duties.
- Strong knowledge of employee benefits programs and related laws.
- Exceptional communication and customer service skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in HRIS systems, benefits management software, and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
