Accounting Specialist

Description We are looking for a dedicated Accounting Specialist to join our team in Syracuse, New York. In this role, you will play a vital part in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our financial operations, including billing, reconciliations, and compliance activities. Working closely with the finance team, you will contribute to audits, reporting processes, and budget preparation. This contract to permanent position offers an excellent opportunity for growth within a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities:

- Assist in maintaining accurate financial records and performing monthly balance sheet reconciliations.

- Prepare billing for contracts, grants, and programs, ensuring timely and accurate invoicing.

- Support payroll processes, benefits administration, and adherence to internal financial controls.

- Reconcile bank accounts and general ledger accounts on a monthly basis.

- Organize and prepare documentation for annual audits and compliance reviews.

- Manage accounts payable records, including processing purchase orders and resolving discrepancies.

- Collaborate with internal teams to understand purchasing needs and ensure cost-effective procurement.

- Update and maintain the chart of accounts within the accounting system.

- Prepare 1099 forms, maintain vendor tax documentation, and support year-end reporting activities.

- Contribute to the development of the organization's annual budget and participate in process improvement initiatives. Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.

- Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting, budgeting, or financial operations.

- Proficiency in accounting software, Microsoft Excel, and general computer applications.

- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and reconciliations.

- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.

- Effective communication abilities and a customer-focused approach to working with diverse stakeholders.

- High attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.

- Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
