Christopher Community, Inc. (CCINC) seeks a Full Time Senior Accountant to join its growing organization! The physical work location for this position will be at the Christopher Community Corporate Office located at 990 James St, Syracuse, NY.
CCINC is a not-for-profit Housing Development and Property Management company that assist low- and moderate-income families and seniors to secure suitable housing across Upstate New York. Christopher Community currently manages over 3,100 units of housing in more than 100 buildings, and administers the Rental Assistance Program in Onondaga County, which provides assistance to over 1,200 households. Since 1971, Christopher Community has maintained a proven track record in developing and operating affordable housing, the organization is responsible for the management of the operating budget of over $30M and employs over 130 employees.

Requirements
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
The Senior Accountant will report to the VP of Financial Strategy and is directly responsible to assume responsibility for a variety of accounting, financial analysis and accounting operations tasks.

* Participation in month end close accounting processes for multiple entities including preparation/review of journal entries, for accuracy & completeness
* Preparation/review of balance sheet account reconciliations
* Preparation of income statement and balance sheet analyses including account analysis to identify incorrect postings and necessary reclassification's;
* Develop and implement effective accounting strategies, policies, and procedures in accordance with evolving regulations, legal and governmental requirements and industry trends.
* Implement and maintain effective internal controls.
* Identify opportunities for process improvements to accelerate close timelines;
Partner with the VP of Financial Strategy on strategic and operational initiatives to optimize the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the broader accounting function
* Ensuring that all required tax, contracts, and grant related financial reports are submitted in a timely manner.
* Works with auditor for the interim and year-end audits and prepare schedules as requested from the auditors.
* Manage cross functional execution of financial close execution and required documentation.
* Special projects and ad-hoc requests as assigned;
This position will report to the VP of Financial Strategy.
Education & Experience:
* B.S. degree in Accounting preferred.
* 1-2 years public accounting experience or 3-5 years industry accounting experience
* Experience with Non-profit GAAP, Single Audits, HUD and NYSHCR preferred.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Outstanding analytical skills with strong attention to detail
* Organization skills and ability to prioritize to meet multiple deadlines.
* Establishes and maintains effective relations internally and externally.
* Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, proficiency with email, other Microsoft Office applications,
* Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction
* Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving and results.
