LEAPS Teaching Assistant Van Duyn - Part Time

- Assist the classroom instructor in delivering content, managing behavior, taking attendance, supervising bathroom breaks, and other support activities.
- Familiarize with the YMCA School Age Child Care objectives and consider these objectives in delivery of activities.
- Observe and follow the YMCA School Age Child Care program guidelines as well as NYS OCFS regulations.
- Report to the program ready to work at designated times and prepared to stay until all children have left and space is thoroughly cleaned.
- Provide a safe, healthy, moral, and fun environment for all children. Assist with behavior management using positive techniques and support age-appropriate expectations.
- Provide a positive role model for the children in the program; model actions, speech, and attire.
- Foster growth of YMCA values (respect, responsibility, caring, honesty) and teamwork, sportsmanship, friendship, and pride in doing one best.
- Assist with supervision of snack, dismissal, and other program transitions as assigned.
- Assist with maintaining records of daily and weekly attendance.
- Follow the Syracuse City School District Code of Conduct at all times.
- Assist in conducting monthly fire drills, shelter in place drills and daily health checks as required by OCFS.
- Serve as a substitute teacher where necessary.
- Maintain a positive, open relationship with staff, parents, and program participants and report issues to the Director.
- Previous experience working with children under 13 years of age.
- Maturity, responsibility and a sincere interest in working with people.
- General knowledge of the YMCA, its goals, and its mission.
- Ability to work in an environment requiring flexibility and patience.
- Knowledge of age-appropriate activities and expectations of children ages 5 to 12.
- Prior to assignment: complete an initial medical statement and tuberculin test providing satisfactory evidence of fitness for child day care.
- Within the first 30 days of employment: undergo fingerprint and background screening; obtain clearance on the SCR and SCL.
- Must complete online Bloodborne Pathogens and Employee Safety trainings prior to initial assignment.
- Must hold CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications or complete no later than 30 days after employment begins; may be required for some programs.
- Must attend and complete YMCA Child Abuse Prevention within the first 60 days of employment.
- Must complete online Hazard Communication training within the first 90 days of employment.
- Must attend and complete New Employee Orientation within the first 90 days of employment.
- Must hold Medication Administration Certification or complete no later than 90 days after employment begins.
- Must complete a minimum of 30 hours of training every 2 years, with the first 15 hours within the first 6 months of employment, as required by NYS OCFS.

- Physical Demands:
Ability to stand, sit, walk, talk, hear, and lift up to approximately 35 pounds; ability to lift and move large gym equipment; vision requirements described as distance, peripheral, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. - Work Environment:
