Location: City of Syracuse

Monday - Thursday 7:00am - 5:30pm

Friday: 7:00am - 12:00pm - This will be a rotating schedule with some Fridays off based on doctor schedule.

Working hours will vary by office needs.

Pay range: $23.00 - $27.00 based on experience.

The Surgical Assistant is responsible for ensuring compassionate, effective, and efficient delivery of high‑quality clinical care for patients while practicing and providing safety in the work environment. The ideal candidate will assist oral surgeons during procedures, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow in a fast‑paced environment. This role requires a strong understanding of surgical procedures, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to providing high‑quality patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure patients receive the highest quality of care and service.
  • Communicate with all patients (both in‑person and by phone) in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Maintain positive, pleasant, and professional relationships between patients, staff, and surgeons.
  • Assist oral surgeons during surgical procedures and prepare instruments, materials, and equipment needed.
  • Support efforts that provide a clean and professional environment for all patients, ensuring operatories are clean, supplies are adequate, equipment is maintained, and compliance with all company policies.
  • Monitor patients’ vital signs during surgical procedures and provide support as needed.
  • Assist with postoperative care, including patient education and follow‑up instructions.
  • Document patient encounters and surgical procedures accurately.
  • Foster a collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork, efficient workflow, and exceptional patient care.
  • Attend and participate in regular team meetings.
  • Adhere to best practices, established protocols, and highest patient safety standards.
Support Monthly Office Checks
  • Crash carts
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Emergency preparedness attestations
  • Attest
  • X‑ray unit calibration
  • Omni‑cam calibration
  • Drug book accuracy and controlled substance inventory
  • Ensure oxygen tanks are full and hooked up
  • Ensure invoices for controlled substances are printed
  • Ensure proper controlled substance safety protocols are adhered to
Qualifications

Education/Certification

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required (some college preferred).
  • Previous clinical experience; experience as an oral surgery assistant or dental assistant preferred (will train the right candidate).
  • Basic Life Support certification required; employer will provide training if not current.

Work Environment/Conditions
  • Fast‑paced dental office environment.
  • Overtime sometimes required as needed to perform job functions.
  • Some travel as needed for training and to perform job functions.
  • Safety procedures required, including protection to minimize risks from X‑rays.
  • Potential long hours standing.
