Job Summary
Clinical Care:
Active clinical practice by College of Medicine faculty members is the basis for the education of medical students, residents and fellows. Active clinical practice also provides a means to stay current with state-of-the-art medical treatments, procedures, medications, etc. For these reasons, faculty clinical practice programs are essential to Upstate's instructional mission and participation in these programs is a critical responsibility of members of the faculty in clinical departments.
Therefore, it is an expectation that you will perform excellent clinical care in the area/division of Ophthalmology with an emphasis on neuro-ophthalmology including provision of primary care and consultant responsibilities from private patients and those patients being followed in the public clinics of Ophthalmology and serve as preceptor for house staff and students in caring for patients on the Ophthalmology service during assigned periods.
You will develop clinical activities that promote excellence in clinical care, i.e., assume a leadership role and demonstrate innovation in clinical services. You will establish and maintain reputation as a successful and innovative clinician.
Teaching:
Offer clear and effective instruction within your expertise to students in the Colleges of Medicine and Graduate. Studies and serve as preceptor/mentor for house staff. It is our expectation that all faculty participate in teaching, both within their Department and in multidisciplinary courses in the College of Medicine. You will be assigned, by your department chair, to participate in these courses as a lecturer or small group leader/participant as part of your professional obligation.
Research:
Carry out high quality original research and maintain a good publication record in peer-reviewed journals. Seek extramural funding.
Service:
Participate in governance, curriculum development and other forms of academic service, by serving on departmental, institutional and professional committees as appointed or elected.
Mentoring:
Offer clinical and research training to such medical, graduate, and post-doctoral students as you are able to recruit, support financially if needed, and accommodate in your assigned space.
- MD, DO, or foreign equivalent
- Enrolled or completed fellowship in Neuro-Ophthalmology and Pediatric Ophthalmology
- Ophthalmology Board certified or board eligible
- NYS License or License Eligible
