Salary: $33.00/hour
Hours: Approximately 3:00 – 5:00 pm, 4 days a week.
Position SummaryThis position supports the mission of the Y. The After School Arts Instructor works with students in after‑school programs at a designated school, teaching art principles and ensuring safety, well‑being, and a positive learning environment.
Essential Functions- Models the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
- Builds and maintains positive relationships with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization, supporting members to connect with each other and the YMCA.
- Maintains physical presence and remains alert while on duty.
- Reviews and follows all emergency procedures, responding immediately to emergencies in accordance with YMCA policies and completing related reports as required.
- Develops and implements arts lessons that increase knowledge of artistic principles and expand students’ interest in art.
- Ensures the safety of all students.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of classroom spaces.
- Communicates respectfully and clearly with all students, administrators, and parents.
- Enforces all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, procedures, and staff expectations, including child‑abuse prevention requirements.
- Acts as an ambassador for all YMCA programs, promoting department offerings and member engagement.
- Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available; cleans and stores equipment per branch procedures.
- Attends all mandatory meetings and trainings.
- Is willing to step up, even outside the position description, to contribute to the overall success of the YMCA.

- Collaboration – Creates sustainable relationships within the Y and with other organizations in service to the community.

- A college degree related to the position’s art field, or a similar degree of demonstrable professional experience in the appropriate arts genre (performance, teaching, exhibitions, etc.).
- Prior experience working directly with elementary‑age students in an art education environment.
- Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication, interpersonal, decision‑making, problem‑solving, and leadership skills.
- Strong experience and skills in fine arts within the given field.
- Ability to work both within a team and independently.
- Ability to develop and implement meaningful and creative lesson plans appropriate for the targeted age group.
- Must complete annual safety, combating sexual‑harassment, and child‑abuse prevention trainings assigned by human resources prior to direct service.
- Must have current CPR and First Aid certification.

Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a recreational and/or educational environment. The role routinely uses standard recreation and/or office equipment. At times, employees may be exposed to undesirable working conditions, communicable infectious diseases, and risk of injury from others. All employees are required to always follow the preventative health policies of the YMCA. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.
