A globally reputable and rapidly growing multi-billion-dollar aerospace manufacturing organization is seeking to hire a senior-level Director of Technical Operations to lead engineering and metallurgical functions for a multi-site business unit. Reporting VP/General Manager, this position will be based out of the company’s New York state production location. This is a permanent, direct-hire opportunity.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic and tactical leadership for Process Engineering, Product Engineering, and Laboratory functions to ensure high performance in product quality and process reliability.
- Drive operational excellence and cultural transformation initiatives to embed a Zero Defects mindset across all technical functions.
- Oversee technical support for technical operations with a focus on process control, yield improvement, and scrap reduction.
- Develop and manage department budgets, approve capital expenditures, and support raw material purchasing and sales contract technical reviews.
- Serve as the technical liaison for customer support, complaint resolution, and industry engagement through forums, seminars, and technical committees.
- Direct root cause analysis using SPC, MSA, PFMEA, and 8D methodologies to resolve issues and strengthen the company’s internal and external quality reputation.
- Build, mentor, and develop high-performing engineering teams across multiple facilities, aligning technical expertise with business objectives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Material Science, Metallurgy or similar. M.S./Ph.D. preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive technical management experience within metallurgical manufacturing environments.
- Proven expertise in melting, formulation, and processing of alloy products.
- Strong proficiency in SPC, MSA, PFMEA, and 8D problem-solving tools.
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and decision-making skills, with the ability to thrive in high-pressure environments.
