Electrical Engineer (New Product Development)
Legrand, North America invites applications for an Electrical Engineer (New Product Development) position in the Electrical Wiring Systems Pass and Seymour Team, Syracuse, NY. The role focuses on design, development, and improvement of new and existing electrical products, supporting market share growth through innovation.
Responsibilities- Design, develop, analyze, and test new and existing electrical products to specifications provided by customers and/or marketing.
- Perform ancillary NPD tasks including competitive product reverse engineering, bread boarding, circuit simulation, PCB layout, electronic component and assembly documentation, and lab guidance for third‑party product testing.
- Ensure products are developed on schedule, at cost, meeting design specifications and required third‑party listings while coordinating with product managers, project engineers, mechanical, firmware, laboratory and FCC/ISED engineers.
- Provide technical support to production personnel for new manufacturing test programs, procedures, and equipment, and lead design‑for‑manufacturability efforts.
- Investigate, analyze, and approve suppliers/vendors, new materials, components, technology, bills of material, and engineering practices.
- Interface with Canadian Standards Association, UL, ACB, and other NRST labs to ensure compliance.
- Perform additional related duties as required.
- Minimum Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering or Electrical Technology.
- 1–3 years of relevant experience in new product design.
- Component‑level circuit design; troubleshooting and analysis of product failures; application of test results to performance, design‑for‑manufacturability, and compliance.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency with Altium, SPICE simulation, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and project management software (e.g., Smartsheet).
- Basic understanding of embedded C and microcontroller interfacing.
- Advanced computer literacy with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, email, and meeting‑management tools.
- Effective use of internet and web‑based resources.
- Proficiency in engineering design and project management software.
- Organizational and time‑management skills, close attention to detail, and ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; effective listener.
$85,300 – $109,000 annually.
