The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and improvement of new and existing products within the Electrical Wiring Systems Team. The role supports the company’s goals of increasing market share and profitability through creativity and innovation.
What Will You Do?- Collaborate with the Marketing Product Line Manager to develop product specifications, securing consensus on design with marketing and manufacturing.
- Create sketches, 3‑D files, and prototype designs; evaluate concepts to select the best solution based on customer requirements.
- Utilize Solid Works and other CAD software to refine, develop, and finalize design models and drawings.
- Work with the patent attorney to protect product intellectual property and avoid infringement.
- Collaborate with Electrical Engineers to integrate printed circuit boards into product designs.
- Refine and complete product design through modeling, prototyping, testing, analysis, piloting, and inspection of processes and first articles.
- Produce and update necessary documentation to support production, including engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and quality requirements.
- Manage projects to rapid and effective completion across departmental gaps.
Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (minimum)
Experience: 5–10 years of relevant experience (preferred)
- Product design experience with electro‑mechanical assembly, injection molded component, and die stamped component design.
- Experience designing for low cost and high‑volume manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency with 3‑D CAD software;
Solid Works preferred. - Proficiency with CAD/Engineering document‑management tools such as Solid Works EPDM.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations and, if possible, use Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
- Creativity in developing new or revised product design concepts.
- Strong computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; effective listener and collaborator across all levels.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills with attention to detail.
- Knowledge of ISO 14001 and eco‑design principles.
- Ability to design products to meet UL requirements.
- Experience working with Electrical and Software Engineers for internet‑connected products (IoT).
